More than a century ago, the Famous Five challenged the status quo by first convening with like minded women through Pink Teas. Today, we continue in that spirit with Pink After 5, creating space to hear from women who are shaping their fields and contributing to change in their communities today.
This fall, the Famous 5 Foundation is hosting four evenings that bring together leading voices and a small audience for thoughtful conversation and shared ideas.
Each evening is centred on a featured speaker and their work, with formats that may include talks, moderated discussion, and audience Q&A. After the formal program, guests are invited to stay, connect, and continue the conversation.

Public opinion can tell us much more than who is ahead or behind. It can reveal what people are concerned about, where opinions are shifting, and how Albertans are responding to the political questions shaping their province.
Janet will take a closer look at democracy and the Alberta referendum through the lens of public opinion, exploring what polling can tell us about the issues that resonate with Albertans and the forces that influence how people make political decisions. The conversation will look beyond individual poll numbers to consider the bigger picture.
At Pink After 5, Janet invites guests to consider what public opinion can teach us about democracy, political participation, and the province we share.
About Janet Brown:
Janet Brown is Alberta’s most recognized pollster and political analyst. With more than 35 years of experience in polling and marketing research, Janet has developed a knack for asking the right people the right questions.
Throughout her career, she has managed research assignments for all levels of government and numerous private-sector organizations, designing and managing hundreds of quantitative and qualitative research projects.
Together with Trend Research, Janet conducted the most accurate publicly released polls during both the 2019 and 2023 Alberta provincial elections. In partnership with journalist Paul McLoughlin, she also publishes the Wild Ride Update, a quarterly report combining political insight with proprietary polling.
Janet is frequently invited to speak about political and social trends and is a regular commentator on CBC Calgary, Alberta Primetime, and the West of Centre podcast. She continues to be active in the academic community and has recently delivered guest lectures at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, and Concordia University in Montreal.
Janet is co-author of “Marginally Better,” a chapter in Orange Chinook: Politics in the New Alberta, and “Sorry, Not Sorry: The Nasty, Brutish and Short Premiership of Jason Kenney,” the opening chapter of Anger and Angst: Jason Kenney’s Legacy and Alberta’s Right.
She holds a B.A. (Hons) in Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University, undertook graduate studies at York University, and studied International Development and International Law at the London School of Economics.
