This July, the Famous 5 Foundation’s Trailblazers Tour will be at the Red Deer Museum + Art Gallery.

This self-guided exhibit invites visitors to learn about Emily Murphy, Henrietta Muir Edwards, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, and Irene Parlby, the five women who dared to ask -

“Does the word ‘persons’ under the British North America Act include women?”

The courts said “No” so they persisted.

Their victory in 1929 helped open doors for women and marginalized people to this day. Their legacy continues to remind us that progress is made when people dare to ask bigger questions.

Did you know? The Red Deer MAG even has one of Irene Parlby's dresses as part of their collection. Irene Parlby lived near Red Deer in Alix for most of her life, she has a special connection to the area. This adds another layer to history feeling not so distant.
