In 1999, a stunning, larger-than-life bronze monument was erected in Olympic Plaza, downtown Calgary, Alberta. The monument was unveiled by then Governor General Adrienne Clarkson on October 18 - the 70th anniversary of the 'Persons' Case. A larger-than-life bronze monument also stands on Parliament Hill. The Famous 5 were the first women, other than royalty, to have a place here. The monument has become the most popular monument on Parliament Hill.

The compelling statue depicts a meeting of the Famous 5 - one of their infamous "pink teas".
Created by Edmonton artist Barbara Paterson, this monument was made possible with the generous donation received from five groups of remarkable women.

  1. Ann McCaig and her daughters, Roxanne and Jane (Calgary, Alberta)

"The Famous 5 were firm in their beliefs for women and their actions have benefited all Canadians." - Ann McCaig

Ann is a successful businesswoman, former Chair of the Calgary Foundation and former Chancellor of the University of Calgary. She serves on the Board of Directors of Suncor Energy Inc. and is Chair of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre. Ann and her daughters are actively involved in the community.

  1. Dr. Maria Eriksen (Calgary, Alberta) and Ayala Manolson (Toronto, Ontario)

"I decided to help fund this monument because it is one way for children to learn that there are Canadian heroes who are women." - Ayala Manolson

Maria was the President of MPower Consulting Inc., a corporate psychology firm in Calgary and the founding Chair of the Famous 5 Foundation. As one of the five 1999 Governor General's Persons Awards recipients, Maria was recognized for her local, national, and international work to improve the status of women. Dr Maria Eriksen passed away in November 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ayala is the founder of the Hanen Centre, a not-for-profit organization which trains parents to help teach their language-delayed children to talk. She has written two parent guidebooks, both of which have been translated and used in over 100 countries worldwide.

  1. Kiki Delaney (Toronto, Ontario)

"Canada is a much better place to live because of the accomplishments of the Famous 5. The issues they tackled - essentially freedom and equality - represent the very backbone of our society." - Kiki Delaney

Kiki is the president of C.A. Delaney Capital Management Ltd., a firm of independent investment counsellors for private clients. Raised in Winnipeg, Kiki now lives in Toronto, where she serves on the Board of Directors of the National Ballet School, the Shaw Festival and the Art Gallery of Ontario.

  1. Senator Vivienne Poy (Ottawa, Ontario)

  1. Heather Reisman (Toronto, Ontario)
